Descrating the flag or brilliant marketing?
In a small housing development near my home in Carlsbad, California, a Realtor uses some creative marketing to reach into the community.
On the Fourth of July (Independence day in the USA) this Realtor places small American flags at the end of every driveway. Attached to each flag is her business card.
I spent this Independence Day at our home in Chicago, so I don’t know if she placed the flags again this year. I took these photos a few years back.
Carlsbad is a beautiful seaside community north of San Diego, and most people consider it to be a slice of heaven.
But if you’re selling real estate you have competition. I sometimes wonder if there isn’t a city ordinance requiring every household to have at least one licensed agent.
Buying agents and selling agents split the commissions, so the money is in the listings. Agents should do everything possible to get listings.
When I first saw the flags, I was impressed with how patriotic the community was. Then I noticed the card taped to the flag, and I was impressed with how creative the real estate agent was.
But advertising on an American flag could be a little tricky. I have not heard of anyone being upset, but this is an odd time.
